As we are back in the UK and settling down we will probably be posting on this blog less regularly than before. We will continue to post our news but not so often.

However, Matt is starting a new blog which he plans to use more regularly – and, just like this one, you can sign up to get updates by email or subscribe to the feed.

Lent resources

I stumbled across some Lent resources last week by Christine Sine. We’ve mentioned Tom & Christine Sine in the past – their books have been really insightful in our journey over recent years, particularly Living on Purpose and Sacred Rhythms. They run Mustard Seed Associates – which has a great website with lots of resources – and have just started the Mustard Seed Journey blog. They have also just formed an intentional community in Seattle US (something that Polly and I have been dreaming of for many years, and will be watching with interest) which is called Mustard Seed House.

Anyway the Lent resources…Christine Sine has produced a guide for Lent called A Journey Into Wholeness – which you can freely download here. It is designed to take us “each week on a journey into a different aspect of the brokenness of god’s world”, using the time of Lent as preparation for, “being instruments of God’s healing and restoration.” We will be using the guide over the coming weeks – there will be additional resources added at the Mustard Seed Journey blog and also at Christine Sine’s blog GodSpace.

Lent invites us to re-enter the school of life and be disciplined in the endless possibilities of growth Christine Sine – A Journey Into Wholeness

Another great resource for Lent is 40 by Revive. Forty illustrations depicting Jesus in the Wilderness (as described in Matthew 4: 1-11) making one image for each day of Lent. The images have been made into PowerPoint and movie presentations with a soundtrack – which you can order from CMS or Proost.

 

Why blog?

Before I set up this new blog I asked myself why bother? What is the point of blogging? I obviously decided it was worth it as this new site exists – but why?

Well it’s an easy way of sharing our news with friends and family (and anyone else that may be interested) as we experience life in Zambia. But I hope it is more than that – it offers the opportunity of sharing thoughts and experience, as well as (I hope) creativity, hopefully in a two-way (or multi-way) direction. People can share their own thoughts and links by leaving a comment and perhaps blogging themselves. In that way it opens up the opportunity for community – which I believe has to be a good thing. Perhaps it is a bit egotistical – you’ve got to believe you’ve got something worth sharing to bother blogging in the first place – but then the beauty of blogging is you aren’t forcing people to view what you write. If you’re not interested you don’t have to read it – but if you are then it opens up the opportunity for dialogue and shared learning.

OK it’s always nice to feel wanted, but we’re not that bothered about the number of hits – it’s really a way of expressing our thoughts and sharing life, if no-one reads it then all is not lost, for by expressing ourselves we’ll no doubt learn more about ourselves and the world around us.
